Zac Goldsmith, the Conservative Party’s London Mayoral nomination, briefly addressed CF India and the British Indian community at the Indian High Commission’s Party Conference reception in Manchester, October 6th. Watch the clip above or read the text below for part of that address.
Zac Goldsmith: “I want to thank CF India, it’s a magnificent organization. I think you can genuinely take credit for a number of MPs in Parliament today, for Conservative MPs who owe their success to you.
If you think about it: we’ve got a very small majority in Parliament at the moment, a twelve seat majority, so it is just possible that many people in this room are responsible for enabling us to avoid another coalition government. If that is the case, and I think it might be the case, then I thank you yet again. It is a great organization.
I have one further point that I wanted to make: CF India have already proven its value from a political point of view, but I hope you don’t mind my asking you to join us again in the campaign in the coming months. It’s going to be a major battle: seven months against an invigorated, dangerous, agitated, but very disciplined Labour machine. It’s not an attractive sight, but it’s effective, we know that, and we’re going to need to match that, we’re going to need to exceed that, and I’m going to need the help of everyone who belongs to CF India.”
